Long Pond (Winter Ice Fishing)

Note to Ice Anglers:  IAW AR215-5 Chapter 4; 4-2 Authorized Fishing Areas.

Bull Pond and Round Pond will only be open to fishing during the NYS trout season and Lusk Reservoir will be open from 1 April through 30 November.

Anglers should be aware that ice conditions are extremely variable due to weather, currents, depth and other conditions. In general, three to four inches of good, clear ice is a minimum for safety. Milky ice is weaker and should be thicker. Ice Anglers are responsible to personally verify ice safety as the enter the lake area and where they intend on fishing. Do not rely on the presence of other fishermen or previous experience. Conditions are changeable! USAG West Point does not monitor ice thickness and cannot guarantee participants' personal safety while on the ice. For additional information on ice safety and ice fishing regulations please see: https://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/7733.html

Delafield Pond Update

Delafield Pond Update:
For the past several years, the Army Corps of Engineers has been studying significant water leakage from the dam at Delafield Pond.  The goal was to determine the source of the leak and the feasibility of repairing it.  Unfortunately, it has been determined that a total replacement of the existing dam would be required, with a cost in excess of $3 million.  In light of these structural issues and a focus on community safety, Delafield Pond cannot be filled with water until further repair is considered and completed.

West Point Family and MWR is working hard to develop a long term solution in order to provide recreational swimming at West Point.  This is contingent on many things outside of the control of the installation, to including funding projects of this caliber.  We will continue to champion a solution for the West Point Community until fruition. Until then, we have greatly enhanced our swim beaches at Long Pond, Round Pond, and Lake Frederick, we encourage our customers to take full advantage of these beautiful swimming sites and camping areas.
