COVID-19 Operational Guidelines for Long Pond

 

Welcome Back To Long Pond!

We are committed to the safety of our patrons and staff in these challenging times. Therefore, we’ve made a few changes to our operations at Long Pond for Summer 2020.

  • Admission Tickets will only be sold online at http://go.usa.gov/xf2N9 . If you are on a mobile device, best view is experienced in Full Site.
  • You will need to either bring a printed copy of your ticket or show us your ticket online via a Smartphone.
  • Tickets will go on sale the day you are planning to visit at 12:01am.
  • Tickets are only valid for one of two sessions: 10:30am – 1:30pm or 2:30pm – 5:30pm.
  • We are limiting admissions to only sixty (60) patrons per session.
  • Long Pond will close daily from 1:30pm – 2:30pm in order for the staff to reset for the Afternoon Session. All patrons must exit the facility during this time period.
  • When possible, please have one person per group complete the admissions check-in process to avoid congregating.
  • Each group of ticket holders will be provided with a marked out 10 x 10 space for leaving their personal belongs. Please do not gather with patrons other than those you came with.
  • Physical distancing guidelines of at least six feet of separation must be maintained by parties at all times, including in the water.
  • No lounge chairs will be available. You are allowed to bring your own beach chairs.
    •   The Large Pavilion is closed.
    •  The Volleyball Court is closed.
    • The Bean Bag Toss Games are closed.
    • Picnic Areas are closed.
  • Patrons must wear cloth or other face coverings upon entering the facility and when receiving first aid; masks will not be worn in the water.
  • Personal water toys and inflatables are not permitted at this time. Sand toys are OK but should not be shared.

  • CAMPERS ONLY – proof of reservation must be shown.
  • Lifeguards are responsible for overall safety, not supervision.
  • Parents/guardians provide the first line of protection and are responsible for the actions of their children and any guests under their care.
  • Children 5 and under must have a guardian in the water within arm’s reach at all times.
  • Children 15 and under must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
  • Smoking and Alcohol consumption is prohibited on the beach.
  • NO: loud music, profanity, intoxication, open fires, or trespassing.
  • NO: glass, pets, horseplay, running, diving, swimming outside of the designated swim area, or boats on the beach/in the swimming area.
  • Inflatable rafts and water wings are not permitted. All personal flotation devices must be USCG approved.
  • Any patron distraction of a lifeguard stationed in chair is prohibited.
  • A 15 minute rest period will be given every hour regardless of the number of patrons at the facility. At 15 minutes to the hour a signal is given and all swimmers under the age of 15 must exit the water.
  •  Patrons will be required to exit the water if there is thunder or lightning within 10 miles. There is a 30 minute wait from the last occurrence of thunder or lightning.
  • THE LIFEGUARDS ARE IN CHARGE AND ALL SWIMMERS WILL BE EXPECTED TO OBEY THEIR COMMANDS AT ALL TIMES. AFTER ONE WARNING, THOSE WHO DO NOT FOLLOW THE RULES WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE. IF A SECOND WARNING MUST BE GIVEN, MILITARY POLICE WILL BE CALLED.

Delafield Pond Update

Delafield Pond Update: 
For the past few years, the Army Corps of Engineers has been studying significant water leakage from the dam at Delafield Pond.  The goal was to determine the source of the leak and the feasibility of repairing it.  Unfortunately, it has been determined that a total replacement of the existing dam would be required, with a cost in excess of $3 million.  In light of these structural issues and a focus on community safety, Delafield Pond cannot be filled with water.  Additionally, Crandall Pool will be undergoing a major maintenance over the summer months to address critical deficiencies and will be unavailable for an extended period of time that is still to be determined.

West Point Family and MWR has been working a series of actions to provide the community with viable alternatives for the upcoming summer and the near future.  Round Pond Beach Area is currently undergoing a much needed enhancement with support from West Point DPW.  The existing beach area is being expanded and all of your favorite Delafield treats, including everyone’s favorite Slushie Machines, will be available there this summer.  Additionally, Round Pond offers paddle boats, canoes, kayaks, fishing, and one of the best playgrounds on West Point.

For a more extended day trip, we suggest a visit to Frog Falls Water Park at Picatinny Arsenal, which is less than 90 minutes away.  Featuring a lazy river, two high velocity slides, a wading pool and kid’s splash pad, this experience is a great trip for the whole family. West Point Family and MWR is working hard to develop a long term solution in order to provide recreational swimming at West Point.  This is contingent on many things outside of the control of the installation, to including funding for projects of this type.  We will continue to champion a solution for the West Point Community until fruition.
